When people move out of Georgia, this is where they're headed, U-Haul shows

A new report from U-Haul reveals where Georgia residents are going, and where new ones are coming from.

The company’s semiannual U.S. migration trends report, based on one-way rental data, reveals that while Georgia, particularly Atlanta, remains a top destination, more and more Georgians are also packing up and heading west and north.

Where are Georgians moving to the most?

While U-Haul's report focuses on inbound moves to Georgia, trends in outbound traffic show that many people leaving Georgia are heading to states like Texas, Florida, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

Which states are sending the most new residents to Georgia?

According to U-Haul, the top states sending new residents into Georgia via one-way truck rentals are:

  1. Florida

  2. North Carolina

  3. Alabama

  4. Tennessee

  5. South Carolina

  6. Texas

  7. Virginia

  8. Ohio

  9. Illinois

  10. Mississippi

Among metro areas outside the state, U-Haul customers are most frequently moving into Georgia from:

  1. Miami, FL

  2. Orlando, FL

  3. Tampa, FL

  4. Charlotte, NC

  5. Nashville, TN

How are Georgians moving within the state?

Not all migration is out-of-state. U-Haul data shows that Georgians are also on the move within the state. The top metro areas sending residents to Atlanta include:

  1. Athens

  2. Savannah

  3. Augusta

  4. Columbus

  5. Macon
