The Most Expensive Subaru of All Time Is up for Grabs

Second chances don’t come cheap.

A rare example of the most expensive Subaru of all time, the Prodrive P25, is currently up for grabs on Race Cars For You (h/t Autoblog). But anyone looking to take home the street-legal rally car should expect to pay close to double its original price.

Introduced in 2022, the P25 is as close as you’ll come to a factory-built restomod of the Subaru Impreza Turbo that Prodrive used to dominate the World Rally Championship (WRC) from the mid-1990s until the early-2000s. But unlike the pint-sized car that the late Colin McRae drove to glory in 1995, the new version comes with a number of modern-day upgrades and, most importantly of all, is street legal.

The P25 is based on what is widely regarded as the best of those cars, the WRC97. It may not wear one of the British racing team’s distinctive liveries, but it is done up in the rich metallic blue most closely associated with competition-grade Imprezas from that era. Completing the classic look are a set of gold-color 19-inch Prodrive rims wrapped in Bridgestone tires. Inside, you’ll find a spartan setup similar to those found in an actual rally car. The cabin features a black-and-blue color scheme and lightweight racing seats with safety harnesses.

We’re sure enthusiasts would have been more than happy to buy a rally-style Impreza with the same specs as the original, but Prodrive decided to give owners something with a little more oomph. The P25 is powered by a brand-new 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine inspired by the WRC97’s EJ25 engine. The older mill could make up to 340 hp, which isn’t nothing, but the new version makes a much more impressive 400 horses, which is routed to all four wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox. Add all that to a lightweight build—the vehicle tips the scales at less than 2,645 pounds—and you have yourself a car that can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in under three seconds. This example has barely been driven too, with just 600 miles showing on the odometer.

Just 25 examples of the Prodrive P25 were built, making it all but impossible to buy. Fortunately, the owner of this example is willing to part with his car just three years after it was built. Prepare to spend big, though. He’s asking £700,000, or roughly $930,000, for the vehicle. That’s close to double the $500,000 the restomod cost originally.
