New England Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams had a health scare in the middle of team practice on Monday, when he fell onto the grass on the sidelines, according to reporters covering training camp.
Medical staff quickly acted, went to aid Williams and rolled out a stretcher to help carry him off the field. The coach was able to get up on his own, per TMZ.
Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald later reported that Williams collapsed due to dehydration, but was "fine" and receiving treatment.
The incident comes shortly after Williams took some time off due to an undisclosed health issue during offseason workouts in May. CBS reported that linebackers coach Zak Kuhr took over Williams' duties after he left the field on Monday.
Williams is in his first season working with the Patriots, reuniting with head coach Mike Vrabel after they worked together with the Tennessee Titans from 2018 to 2022.
Before joining Vrabel's Patriots staff, Williams served as the Detroit Lions' defensive line coach and defensive running game coordinator in 2024. He had also previously worked for the Oakland Raiders and Miami Dolphins.
The Patriots' new coaching staff will try to spearhead better results after the team went 4-13 last season and missed the playoffs for the third straight year.
