Release the spooks!

August is here and that means it's time to watch vacant buildings transform into ... Spirit Halloween.

A pop culture phenomenon, Spirit Halloween is a retailer that offers every type of Halloween goodie you can imagine, and many things beyond what your mind can conjure. Whether you're looking for costumes, spooky decor or animatronic horrors to scare the neighborhood's kids and dogs, Spirit Halloween is famous as the place to go for a huge selection.

About a month ago, Spirit Halloween announced it would be hiring 50,000 people for more than 1,500 retail locations expected to open ahead of the 2025 Halloween season.

Since then, it's announced where those locations will be, including dozens opening all over Florida.

"For more than four decades, Spirit has created immersive and interactive experiences for shoppers, complete with a unique and vast assortment of costumes and accessories for infants, toddlers, children, 'tweens, teens, and adults, along with exclusive décor and animatronics you won't find anywhere else."

Spirit Halloween first opened in 1983.

The seasonal stores open each August, but "die-hard Halloween enthusiasts"also can shop online year-round.

Spirit Halloween helps make hospitals less scary for children with 'Spirit of Children' program

"At the heart of Spirit Halloween is its philanthropic arm, Spirit of Children.

"We know how intimidating a hospital stay can be, so you can imagine how children may feel. To help children and their families cope during illness or a hospital procedure, Spirit of Children brings the magic of Halloween and more to local hospitals all year long by providing essential funding to support Child Life Departments in over 160 hospitals across the United States and Canada," according to the company's website.

The program has raised more than $145 million.

"Every penny of each donation made to Spirit of Children goes directly to each store's local partner hospital's Child Life Department to support children and their families while they receive care.

"Partner hospitals use donations to provide critical child life staff, sibling and family support services, sensory equipment, and patient-focused resources, including therapy programming, toys, crafts, art supplies, and so much more.

"Plus, every Halloween all partner hospitals receive packages filled with costumes, accessories, coloring books, crayons and tote bags to help facilitate festive Halloween celebrations for patients, caregivers, and their families."
