Ill. (WTVO) — 73-year-old Joseph Czuba, a Will County landlord who killed a 6-year-old Muslim boy during a hate crime attack in 2023, has died in prison, according to police.
It is still unknown when or what caused Czuba’s death.
Czuba was sentenced to 30 years for the death of Wadea Al-Fayoume and 20 years for the severe injuries he caused to the boy’s mother, Hanan Shaheen.
The hate crime and murder incident was sparked because of the victim’s Islamic beliefs and as a response to the war between Israel and Hamas.
Czuba stabbed the 6-year-old 23 times and severely injured his mother in the Plainfield townhome that he was renting to them in 2023.
