BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Five additional parishes were added to the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services’ (DCFS) SNAP produce bonus pilot project.
According to a release, SNAP recipients can now earn 30 cents for every dollar spent on fruits and vegetables from Walmart. They can earn as much as $25 back a month on their EBT cards.
Walmart stores in Calcasieu, Jackson, Lafayette, Rapides, and Terrebonne parishes are now participants of the Electronic Healthy Incentives Project (eHIP), in addition to Ascension, LaSalle, Sabine, Tangipahoa, Webster, and West Carroll parishes.

eHIP was created to encourage SNAP recipients to make healthy food choices by buying more fresh fruits and vegetables. Records show, according to the agency, that Louisiana SNAP shoppers have earned over $280,000 in produce bonus benefits since the project’s launch in April.
“The project helps Louisianans stretch their food budget, but the broader goal is to improve health outcomes,” said Assistant Secretary of Family Support Sammy Guillory. “By making nutritious food more accessible, we’re supporting healthier families, stronger communities, and a better future for our state.”
Shoppers are not required to enroll in the project. The bonus benefits are automatically added to EBT cards at checkout. Benefits can be used as soon as the next purchase of SNAP-eligible groceries.
