Dodge Viper SRT-10 Wrecks Out On California Highway

A driver out enjoying his 2004 Dodge Viper SRT-10 suddenly lost control of the sports car, crashing it into a highway guardrail. The accident happened on Highway 18 in Lucerne Valley in California on the afternoon of August 3.

Louisiana threatens left lane campers with jail time.

Reportedly, the driver was coming down the mountain from Big Bear when the Viper veered out of control, striking the guardrail at speed. A picture shared by local news outlet VVNG shows the Dodge on the side of the road, obvious damage to the rear end as a mangled guardrail sits next to it.

Apparently, initial reports on the crash indicated the driver was speeding. However VVNG says the driver reached out and said speed wasn’t a factor in the accident. He then gave his account of what happened.

“I was doing about 40 [mph] when I hit a little bit of a bump and the rear end jumped, and when it landed I lost traction. The 3rd gen Viper is not equipped with traction control.”

It’s true that the Dodge Viper is properly named since it will bite you if you’re not driving aware and you lack experience handling such a vehicle. It lacks pretty much any driver assistance systems, including traction control.

Thankfully the Viper driver wasn’t injured in the crash, otherwise it would be tragic. While we hate seeing such a beautiful vehicle wrecked out, it at least can be repaired.

Now the California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

This crash serves as an excellent reminder that no matter what kind of performance or hobby car you own, there’s a need to stay vigilant while you’re out enjoying it. We know the temptation is to just have fun, and while you can, you still need to be driving safely and aware.
