Redistricting fight in Texas continues

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – The redistricting fight continues in Texas as House Democrats are still out-of-state to stop a vote on a new congressional map.

More states are considering their own maps ahead of the 2026 midterms.

Redistricting typically happens once a decade but with Texas doing it early other states are now considering how they can better their party’s chances in the midterm elections.

Democrats are preventing a quorum by staying out-of-state in protest of what they say is gerrymandering.

President Trump says Texas should pass the map aimed at adding five more Republicans to congress.

“We are entitled to five more seats,” said Trump.

Republicans are taking new measures to compel a vote.  Texas Senator John Cornyn is calling on the FBI to help track down absent Democrats after the Texas House issued arrest warrants.

“There are no rules anymore apparently,” said Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.

Democrats were welcomed in Illinois by Governor JB Pritzker but the battle over redistricting goes beyond Texas with governors of California and New York weighing their options to add blue seats and the White House eyeing more red states to redistrict.

Indiana Governor Mike Braun says Vice President JD Vance is visiting Thursday.

“If that topic comes up, it’s exploratory. There’s been no commitments made,” said Braun.

The Texas House is expected to try again for a quorum Friday.  The house speaker said he wanted to give the state troopers time to try to locate and return the members.
