Fort Stewart Lockdown: Five Soldiers Shot In Active Shooter Incident

An active shooter incident at Fort Stewart, located about 40 miles southwest of Savanah, Georgia, prompted a base-wide lockdown Tuesday morning, with five soldiers being reported shot near the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area.

Base officials initiated the lockdown at approximately 11:04 a.m., instructing personnel to shelter in place. “Lockdown your facility immediately, stay inside, close and lock all windows and doors. Keep telephone lines open and report accountability to your leadership,” read the official message issued to those on site.

Law enforcement agencies responded to the scene. As of the latest updates, authorities had not confirmed whether the reported casualties involved injuries or fatalities.

Fort Stewart officials confirmed the emergency through the base’s official Facebook page, though limited information was shared about the suspect or the extent of the situation. One person has been taken into custody.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp issued a public statement following the incident. “We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers,” Kemp said.

Fort Stewart is home to the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division and houses thousands of military personnel. Officials have not released the name or motive of any suspect, and the investigation remains ongoing.
