MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — Folks are having fun in the sun in more ways than one at Lyman Orchards’ 19th annual sunflower maze, filled with twists and turns among the scenic fields.
A fan favorite, the team at the orchards decided to bring back the Sesame Street crew with this year’s maze design, featuring everyone’s favorite furry monster, Elmo.
“You’re always gonna have a different experience because of that, but what won’t be different is the beauty of the sunflowers,” John Lyman said.
Drawing close to 15,000 people every year, a dollar of every ticket sold also goes to benefit Connecticut Children’s. So far, the event has raised over $208,000.

Featuring three acres of around 350,000 sunflowers, each attendee can make their way through the maze by answering trivia questions scattered throughout the stalks.
“They have questions that are multiple choice, and depending on whether you answer it right or wrong, you’re either gonna go the right or the wrong way!” Lyman said.
While it might be easy to get lost in the blooms, attendees say they are calling the fields their happy place for the month.
“There are lots of different trivia options as well as the Sesame Street reference, yeah, we had fun!” Tera Degner said.
The sunflower maze is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. now through Aug. 25 in Middlefield.
