One of the best features of the Dodge Viper is its thumping V10 engine, which makes the supercar unbelievably wild. Someone got the not-so-bright idea to yank that out and replace it with an inline-six Hurricane engine, the new one from Stellantis everyone hates.
However, the Hellcat Viper is appropriately cool.
If that sounds horrible, that’s because it is. You might be wondering why someone would commit such an atrocity against the Viper, and we have an answer. It’s all about YouTube.
The car was created by a YouTuber and one thing we know about way too many of those guys: they will do anything for attention. Seriously, it’s almost like they have no moral boundaries in their eternal quest for more views and followers.
This sort of thing should be illegal.
You see, the Dodge Viper was created as the spiritual successor to the AC Cobra. That car was based on one guiding principal: take a lightweight, small platform and shove the biggest, meanest, loudest American engine possible into it.

Carroll Shelby was a madman for creating that thing, a sports car that lives on in infamy for almost killing so many people who bought one. It was raw, unfiltered, and not for your average driver.
We hear people to this day still criticize the Viper for being the same way and they oftentimes blame the “truck engine” shoved up front. Look, we get it, the Dodge supercar isn’t for everyone. Some people want a soft crossover they can drive with one hand while scrolling through TikTok with the other (don’t actually do that, please).
Anyway, we’ve seen some other dumb project cars done with the Hurricane engine that reek of Dodge’s marketing department and we really wonder about this thing. Because no enthusiast in their right mind would do this to “improve” the Viper – don’t try to tell us otherwise.
And bingo, the guy admits the Viper has been built for this year’s Roadkill Nights, so he’s kissing the ring to be part of the show.
What’s ironic is the same guy who did this dumb engine swap previously put a Hellcat engine in a Dodge Dakota – now that’s cool. This Hurricane-powered Viper, on the other hand, is about as disgusting as you can get. We guess the only way it could be worse would be to swap the four-banger from a Dart into a Viper (some YouTuber is probably thinking that’s a great idea for content right now).
