FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. (WHTM) – At an emotional Purple Heart ceremony Thursday, Pennsylvania Treasury Secretary Stacy Garrity (R) was asked about her potential plans to turn Pennsylvania red next November.
“I’ve made a decision and there will be an announcement very soon,” Garrity said at Fort Indiantown Gap on whether she will run for governor in 2026.

Garrity would not say what that decision was, but many Pennsylvania Republicans see her as a promising candidate. The exception is Republican State Senator Doug Mastriano, who is weighing another run for governor after losing to Gov. Josh Shapiro in 2022.
“Unless her campaign comes at me, I’m not going to say anything ill of her,” Mastriano said last week. “I’m proud to say my wife and I helped her win in 2020. She had no traction early on.”
Garrity was asked about Mastriano’s comment Thursday.
“They were incredibly helpful and I will be forever grateful to Sen Mastriano and Rebbie,” Garrity said.

At least one independent poll has shown Mastriano edging out Garrity, who has been elected twice statewide for Treasurer, in a potential 2026 primary.
“Well, I have to tell you [that] I go to all 67 counties every single year,” Garrity said. “I meet with people in all four corners of the state, and I think there’s a lot of enthusiasm for a potential Garrity run.”
However, many Republicans know Mastriano has a passionate base that will be tough to beat in a GOP primary. Still, the party is expected to back Garrity, who said any decision Mastriano makes will not impact her decision.
