Alex Palou took another convincing step toward his fourth NTT IndyCar Series titles in five years with what could best be described as a blowout at WeatherTech Raceway in on Sunday.
Palou led the Java House Grand Prix of Monterey 84 of 95 laps from the pole and notched his third win in four tries on the road course in California. The only time he lost the lead was during pit cycles.
The Chip Ganassi Racing Honda driver leads runner-up Pato O'Ward by 121 points with just three races left on the schedule. Palou will more than likely seal the deal at Portland in the series' next race on Aug. 10.
"Honestly, I would not trade our points for anybody," Palou said. "I would not trade our position, and I would not ask for anything more or anything less. But, yeah, it's not done until it's done. We still need to win it. We still need to keep our heads down and try and win more races."
Palou remains firmly on track to become just the sixth driver in Indy car racing history with four or more championships, joining A.J. Foyt, Scott Dixon, Mario Andretti, Sebastien Bourdais and Dario Franchitti.

Christian Lundgaard finished second on Sunday, 3.79 seconds back. Colton Herta, 4.63 seconds back, was third. O'Ward and Dixon rounded out the top five.
Palou, just 28 years old, already has 19 wins in IndyCar. That puts him in a tie for 23rd all-time in that category with Jimmy Bryan and Sam Hornish Jr.
Palou has eight wins in 14 races in 2025. A.J. Foyt (1964) and Al Unser (1970) hold the record with 10 wins in a season.
"Whenever you hear that you are in a chance of making something that it's so historical and so tough to do, it motivates us," Palou said.
