RNC chair: Democrats ‘learned absolutely nothing’ from 2024

Republican National Committee (RNC) chair and North Carolina Senate candidate Michael Whatley argued Friday morning that Democrats have “learned absolutely nothing” since experiencing major losses in the 2024 election cycle.

“Well, the Democrats have learned absolutely nothing coming out of 2024. They have doubled down on the same failed agenda that they ran,” Whatley told Fox Business. “They are, right now, a party of open borders, inflationary spending and a weak America.”

“Every single one of their leaders has turned to the left, and they’re taking the party further away from main street America,” he added.

The Democratic Party is looking to find its footing during President Trump’s second term, as the party faces waning polling numbers and looks to rebuff the president’s policies, despite being the minority in both the House and Senate.

A mid-July Quinnipiac University national survey found that just 19 percent of Americans approved of the way congressional Democrats are handling their jobs, while 72 percent disapproved. Some 10 percent did not have an opinion.

Of the Democrats alone, just 39 percent approved of how their party’s lawmakers have handled their jobs, compared with 52 percent who disapproved. Another 9 percent did not have an opinion, according to the poll.

Whatley, who formally entered the open race for the North Carolina Senate seat in late July, said Republicans are “faring great” because Trump and the GOP lawmakers in both chambers are “delivering every day for Republicans — for all voters, really, across the country.”

“Right now, we’re seeing economic growth, we’re seeing that the border has been secure, we’re seeing that America is respected across the world again,” the RNC chief said.

He added, “President Trump is delivering on every one of his campaign promises, and the Republican leadership in the House and the Senate are making sure that we are getting the votes that we need to get the Trump tax cuts done and strong support for our soldiers and our veterans, as well as securing that southern border.”

His analysis also comes as Democrats across the country fight back against GOP redistricting efforts ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
