Charles Byrd is accused of killing his wife and hiding her rotting remains in their Texas home for a month — and allegedly bragged that his arrest was his first brush with the law by flippantly crowing, “Go big or go home,” lawmen say.

According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, the accused, 49, made the glib remark after being apprehended in relation to the death of Angela Byrd, 44.

Per News 4 San Antonio, authorities state Byrd’s son called to report a foul odor at the couple’s San Antonio residence and expressed fears that Angela, his stepmother, had been murdered.

During a press conference, Salazar said responding officers discovered Angela’s corpse wrapped in plastic, stating her body was in a “severe state of decomposition.”

After Byrd was bagged at another home in the neighborhood, Salazar said the suspect claimed he and his spouse fought after he accused Angela of infidelity and admitted he strangled her and bit her face hard enough to “draw blood.”

The sheriff also claimed Byrd confessed to watching his wife “take her last breath.”

The victim’s death was determined to be the result of homicidal violence.

The unhinged hubby is charged with tampering with evidence and murder, is being held on $650,000 bond and is slated to undergo a mental health evaluation, officials say, per Fox News.

In the press conference, Salazar acknowledged details of the “shocking” crime are going to “stay” with him “a long, long time.”
