PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) announced that new reports are showing drops in both gun violence and deaths by firearms in the Commonwealth.
Since 2023, the PCCD has awarded $85 million in funding to help reduce gun violence and make communities across Pennsylvania safer. Reports show that gun violence itself is down 42% and deaths caused by firearms are down by 38%.

They also noted that in 2024 alone, violent crimes had dropped by 12% compared to 2022. Pittsburgh is currently seeing the lowest rate of homicides in the last eight years, and homicide rates in Philadelphia have also dropped so significantly that they’re approaching levels last seen in the 60s.
“The progress we’ve made in reducing homicides across Pennsylvania is not an indication that our work is done—it is evidence that our strategies are working,” Lt. Governor Austin Davis, PCCD Chair, said. “Just as you don’t stop medical treatments when symptoms improve, we must not become complacent in the fight against gun violence. Continued and increased investments are essential to ensuring every Pennsylvanian can be safe and feel safe in their community.”
More than 130 projects since 2023 have been awarded funding, including $42 million alone for Philadelphia and $13.5 million for Pittsburgh.
