
The Atlanta Police Department said officers are responding to reports of an active shooter situation near Emory University on Friday, Aug. 8.
The private university in DeKalb County issued an alert warning there was an "active shooter" at the CVS store on campus at around 4 p.m. local time. The alert urged people to "RUN, HIDE, FIGHT. Avoid the area."
There was heavy police presence at Emory Point near the campus and gunshots were heard coming from the CDC campus, according to local station WAGA.
USA TODAY has reached out to the Atlanta Police Department and Emory University for comment.
