It's way too early to discuss specifics, but NOAA's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) already has an eye on Minnesota and neighboring states for possible severe weather and heavy rain this week.

Minnesota will experience less humid air and dry weather through Wednesday, albeit with poor air quality as smoke from Canadian wildfires returns Monday and Tuesday, but wet and stormy conditions could return for the second half of the week.

The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities says "active weather looks to return Wednesday night, with multiple chances for rain continuing into next weekend."

North Dakota and northern parts of Minnesota are highlighted in the SPC's Day 4 severe weather outlook.

For now, the outlook serves as an early notice for where storms could growl in a general area. The severe threat zone will be sharpened as the forecast details are refined in the coming days.

Meanwhile, NOAA's Weather Prediction Center (WPC) is monitoring parts of the region, including much of Minnesota and Wisconsin, for excessive rainfall in the Friday-Saturday window.

"In any case, the threat for locally heavy rain exists Friday and Saturday," the National Weather Service says. "Severe weather wise, depending on the timing of the forcing, we could see some thunder but it's too early to hone in on specific details."
