F-150s Could Lose Power Or Roll Away
Yesterday, Ford announced that it would be killing off the Escape next year to make way for a new mid-size electric pickup in the $30k range. But in the meantime, it has issues to address on its current truck, the F-150, after Reuters was first to report today that a new recall has been issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, affecting some 103,174 vehicles. The NHTSA warns that vehicles with the fault may roll away when parked or experience a loss of drive power, either of which could increase the risk of a crash.
The F-150's Latest Problem Is A Bolt

According to the recall documents, certain 2023-2025 F-150s built between January 2, 2023 and May 21, 2025, equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package and a 9.75-inch heavy-duty axle with a 3/4 float axle design, may have been fitted with a rear axle hub bolt that was not strong enough, and if this fatigues and breaks, the axle hub splines could be damaged. This could prevent the parking brake from operating effectively, and in the worst-case scenarios, the splines will be so badly damaged that the vehicle cannot transfer power to the road. A tell-tale sign of the problem is a clicking noise that may be observed while driving, and if the bolt breaks, this turns into a rattle.
The Solution Is Coming Soon For Some, Later For Others

20,108 F-150s from the 2025 model year are potentially affected, 38,144 from the 2024 model year, and 44,922 from the 2023 model year, with Ford estimating that around 1% require the fix. Ford plans to notify dealers of the issue over the course of this week, and a remedy is expected to be available to owners from the 18th. However, with so many different vehicles over multiple model years potentially being affected, the remedy program is expected to run until May 22, 2026. In the meantime, NHTSA recall 25V512 or Ford recall number 25S82 refer. For the record, the same issue caused a recall for some 113,000 2021-2023 F-150s last year.
