A rare 2020 Bugatti Divo, one of just 40 examples built worldwide, will make its public auction debut on August 15 at Bonhams|Cars during Monterey Car Week. The hypercar, previously displayed at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, is expected to fetch up to $9 million — and it will be offered without reserve.

The Divo, named Robb Report’s “Best of the Best” hypercar for 2019, was conceived as a more dynamic and cornering-focused counterpart to the Bugatti Chiron. Power comes from the same 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine producing 1,500 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque, but the Divo’s engineering prioritizes agility over top speed.

Bugatti capped the Divo’s maximum velocity at 236 mph, compared to the Chiron’s 261 mph, in favor of increased downforce and handling performance. With 1,005 pounds of aerodynamic downforce — nearly 200 pounds more than the Chiron — and the ability to generate 1.6 g of lateral acceleration, the Divo lapped Italy’s Nardò test track eight seconds faster than its sibling.

The car also represents a bold design shift for the marque. At the time of its unveiling, then-Bugatti president Stephan Winkelmann said the goal was to create “more emotional performance and a completely new design” while highlighting the brand’s “sporty side.” The result is a hypercar with a dramatically sculpted exterior, track-oriented chassis tuning, and exclusivity unmatched in the brand’s modern lineup.

With only 40 units built and no prior public sales, this Divo’s appearance on the block is likely to draw intense interest from collectors. For many, it represents not only one of Bugatti’s most technically advanced road cars, but also a rare opportunity to secure one of the most elusive hypercars of the modern era.
