Ford Motor Company is recalling 103,174 F-150 vehicles from the 2024-2025 model years due to a potential rear axle hub bolt defect.
The recall targets trucks equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package and a 9.75-inch heavy-duty axle with a 3/4 float axle design, built between January 2, 2023, and May 21, 2025.
The issue involves a rear axle hub bolt that may fatigue and break, potentially damaging the axle hub splines.
“Damaged axle hub splines can result in a vehicle rollaway when in park without the parking brake applied or cause a loss of drive power,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated, noting that either condition could increase the risk of a crash. Drivers may notice a clicking noise while driving, which could escalate to a rattle if the bolt breaks.
The recall affects 44,922 vehicles from 2023, 38,144 from 2024, and 20,108 from 2025, with Ford estimating that about 1% of these trucks are impacted. This action expands on a previous recall (NHTSA number 23V896) that addressed a similar issue in 113,000 2021-2023 F-150s.
Ford dealers will replace the left and right rear axle shaft assemblies at no cost. Owner notification letters will be mailed in phases from August 18, 2025, through May 22, 2026. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall number 25S82, or reach the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
