  • The Genesis G70 sedan will be discontinued following the 2027 model year, according to a report from Automotive News.

  • The G70 is currently the brand's third-bestselling model, notching 12,258 sales in 2024.

  • The G70 has been on sale since 2019, receiving a comprehensive update for the 2022 model year.

The past decade of automotive sales has been characterized by a move away from traditional sedans and towards SUVs. As buyers' tastes have shifted towards higher-riding vehicles, many sedans have bitten the dust. Now, it appears another sedan is living on borrowed time, with a report from Automotive News stating that the Genesis G70 will likely be discontinued following the 2027 model year.

AN reports that the G70 will most likely not receive a second generation, according to industry analysts, and will be taken off the shelf after 2027. This doesn't just apply to the United States market, either, as the sedan is expected to die off in all global markets, including Genesis's home of South Korea. A spokesperson from Genesis said, "We have no plans to discontinue G70 at this time."

The G70 has been available in the U.S. since the 2019 model year, undergoing a substantial refresh for the 2022 model year that brought sleeker, restyled front and rear ends and a new, larger infotainment screen. The G70 is one of three sedans in Genesis's lineup, alongside the larger G80 and G90. Genesis recently confirmed the discontinuation of the Electrified G80, a version of the mid-size G80 with a dual-motor electric powertrain.

While the G70 was the third-bestselling Genesis model in 2024, it was well adrift of the GV70 and GV80 SUVs. The G70 found 12,258 buyers last year, down from 13,246 the year before. Through the first half of 2025, the G70 is down 7 percent year-over-year with 5136 sales; the GV70 and GV80 moved 26,944 and 22,843 units in 2024, respectively.

The G70 also lags behind several of its compact luxury sedan competitors. The Mercedes-Benz C-class sold 35,590 units in 2024, while the BMW 3-series found 31,330 buyers, and the aging Lexus IS moved 18,946 units in 2024. Even the Volvo S60, which has already been discontinued, sold 13,029 units in 2024.

Discontinuing the G70 would remove the most affordable model in Genesis's lineup, with the 2026 G70 starting at $44,845. If the G70 does end up departing after the 2027 model year, the GV70 SUV would likely become the least expensive Genesis model, starting at $50,480 for 2026.
