DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A man is recovering in the hospital after being injured in a hit-and-run crash in Davidson County.

McKenzie Everhart said many people drive fast in the area of Highway 150 near Central Road in Davidson County.

That’s where state troopers say her boyfriend, Fure Obiokor, was walking home just before 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Around that time, Everhart said she received a phone call from a neighbor.

“They told me had been hit by a car, so I came to the scene immediately. I was freaking out. I was hysterical. I was upset,” Everhart said.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a driver hit Fure and kept going.

Three days later, Fure’s family said he is still at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, recovering.

His brother Nasa has been by his side every step of the way.

“He’s doing good. Blood pressure is slowly coming down. I think he’ll be alright. It’s going to be a very long process,” Nasa said.

In regard to Fure’s injuries, Everhart said he suffered from broken legs and a collapsed lung.

“From head to toe, he his completely bruised,” Everhart said.

Though Fure’s family is glad he’s alive, they have a message for the driver that state troopers are looking for.

“I really hope you feel conviction for what you’ve done. Come forward. Tell us what happened. God knows what you did,” Everhart said.

State troopers say the suspected vehicle is dark colored.

It was last seen traveling along Highway 150 near Central Road sometime around 8:50 p.m. Sunday.
