Where you can find Iowa State Fair food… away from the fair

HUXLEY, Iowa — One of the Iowa State Fair’s biggest draws is the unique food available there, but not everyone can handle the crowds and the heat.

So if some of the fair food appeals to you but the crowds do not, you may need to make the drive to Huxley, Iowa.

Iowa State Fairgoers react to number 2 national ranking

For the third year, Flight Bar + Grill has a special menu highlighting foods you might find at the Iowa State Fair. This year’s menu includes the jalapeño popper egg roll, pickle ranch flat bread, fried Oreos, and a fancy funnel cake. Flight is also offering a pickle margarita and dirty sodas as part of their fair menu.

Flight may be best known for winning Iowa’s Best Burger award in 2023. Owner Matt Pacha says they’re still seeing business from that award, in addition to being on the “Pub Pass.”

Flight Bar + Grill, along with other businesses in Huxley, has had to battle construction projects, such as the closure of the Huxley I-35 exit. But Pacha hopes people will still make the trip there and emphasizes that there are still easy ways to get there.

Flight’s fair food menu will last until the end of the Iowa State Fair, August 17th. Pacha says there’s a chance some of the menu items will stick around if they continue to be popular.
