Florida native Logan Sargeant raced in 37 Formula 1 Grands Prix with Williams across 2023 and 2024.
He was the first American in 30 years to log a point when he finished in the top 10 in Austin in 2023.
On Thursday it was announced that the 24-year-old will link up with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports to drive its No. 52 ORECA LMP2 07.
Logan Sargeant will return to motorsport next month after signing a deal to complete the remainder of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports.
Sargeant contested 37 Formula 1 Grands Prix with Williams across 2023 and 2024, becoming the first American in 30 years to log a point when he finished in the top 10 in Austin. But a spate of poor performances and incidents prompted Williams to axe Sargeant in the wake of last August’s Dutch Grand Prix.
A 24-year-old racer from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Sargeant went on to test for Meyer Shank Racing in IndyCar and penned a deal to contest the European Le Mans Series with IDEC Sport, with a view to joining Genesis’ Hypercar project next year.
But Sargeant withdrew from the planned ELMS campaign, without citing a reason, and has spent the year away from motorsport.
On Thursday it was announced that the 24-year-old will link up with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports to drive its No. 52 ORECA LMP2 07 at the remaining IMSA events in Indianapolis (September 21) and Petit Le Mans at Road America (October 11).
Sargeant will partner with Benjamin Pedersen and Naveen Rao in the car.
“I’m super excited to be jumping back into a car for the last two LMP2 races in IMSA with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports,” Sargeant said. “It’s a great opportunity to drive at two special tracks, Indianapolis and Road Atlanta, and help push for good results with my teammates Ben and Naveen.
“I’m eager to contribute to a successful couple races for the team, and bring my knowledge and experience to everyone involved. See you at the track.”
