From silent hybrid to muscle-car chaos in an instant

One of the strangest sights in the automotive world must be to see a Lamborghini Urus SE—one of the most visually arresting cars in the world—tootling around town in silence, running on nothing more than its electric motor. This plug-in hybrid SUV looks like it needs a blaring soundtrack to justify the presence of those large quad exhausts. Of course, it sounds much better once the V8 joins the party, but Milltek’s new exhaust system has unleashed even more acoustic drama from the Lambo.

New Exhaust Sounds “Evil”

That was the description of the Milltek exhaust from Jon Olsson, a YouTuber and former alpine skier who owns a modified Urus that produces over 1,000 horsepower. The downpipe-back layout seamlessly links with the SUV’s OE valve control system. It includes both an active center section and a rear silencer. Depending on the driving mode—Strada, Sport, Corsa, Sabbia, Terra, and Neve—the exhaust note adjusts accordingly, so it’s quieter when you want it to be and an all-out assault when you leave the suburbs.

“Our system gives the Urus SE the voice it deserves – one that matches its performance credentials,” said Kev Hall, Technical Operations Manager at Milltek. “We’ve tuned it to accentuate the V8’s character in every drive mode, so owners get a more engaging, rewarding driving experience without compromising comfort or emissions. Essentially what we are doing is creating an exhaust note that sounds like a ‘factory version’ of the Urus but with more drama.”

The custom exhaust is made from high-grade stainless steel, so it can withstand the performance demands of a 789-horsepower SUV like the Urus SE. We think you’ll agree that it sounds delicious, as you can hear in the video above.

The combination of the twin-turbocharged V8 and electric motor in the Lamborghini Urus SE allows it to launch itself from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in only 3.4 seconds, and it’ll continue on to a top speed of around 194 mph. Thanks to the electrified powertrain, the SE can also cover 35 miles on electric power alone, and its 48 MPGe combined figure is far better than anything the gas-only Urus can achieve.

But, of course, enough is never enough for Lamborghini. In late June, our spies caught the Italian marque testing an even fiercer version of the Urus at the Nürburgring. Not only is this a facelifted Urus, but it’s set to mark the return of the Performante name. Even a slight bump up in power could make this the first production Urus to cross the 800-hp mark.

We expect to see a production version of this updated Urus soon.
