Modern Crisis: People Can’t Perform Basic Roadside Repairs

Many in society have become helpless, as revealed by about half of Americans saying they can’t perform basic roadside repairs. It’s no wonder consider most can’t fix a leaky faucet, change a furnace filter, or do just about anything useful. But man, they sure can record a mean TikTok.

Flooding in Tennessee ruins countless cars.

It used to be your average car owner could change their oil, gap spark plugs, and even adjust valves without trouble. But these days, changing a flat tire is a major ordeal. Quite frankly, this is an indictment of modern values.

Guardian Service surveyed Americans of varying demographics and found the group that’s least prepared to hit the open road in their vehicle is unsurprisingly Gen Z. You could chalk it up to youth, or maybe their parents not teaching them how to take care of a car, or maybe them not listening to their parents at all.

For whatever reason, 51 percent of Gen Z says they have no idea how to change a flat tire. We’re going to guess that a quantity of the other 49 percent think they know how, but would quickly find out they don’t.

When it comes to jumpstarting a vehicle, 45 percent of Gen Z says it’s clueless. It doesn’t get much more basic than that.

When it comes to the owners of different brands, it seems Kia and Hyundai attract the most car illiterate – and that’s not the last bit shocking. A whopping 93 percent of Kia owners say they don’t know how to change the oil on a car, along with 87 percent of people with Hyundais.

However, Millennials win out in one big category: they will drive farther with a service light on in their vehicle. Of those surveyed, it was found Millennials on average drive 1,213 miles with a service light illuminated before taking their car to a shop.

We guess a lot of people depend on roadside assistance being available. But there are parts of the country where cell service isn’t even a guarantee. We recommend taking a way to jump start your vehicle, tools, gloves, food, water, oil, coolant, and a few other necessities when going on a long trip, or you might pay a dear price for rescue.
