Authorites ask for help finding Minnesota man wanted for Bergen sexual assaults in 1990s

Police are seeking the public's help in locating a former Washington Township resident who skipped his Minnesota court appearance relating to sexual assault charges against him, announced the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

Jed Phykitt, 59, of Dalton, Minnesota, was charged and arrested in February of 2025 on charges of sexual assault against a minor that happened between 1990 and 1991.

The victim was between the ages of 13 and 16 and the alleged sexual assault happened in Bergen County towns Hillsdale, Washington Township and Westwood, officials said.

The investigation into the sexual assault and Phykitt started on April 30, 2024. The former Bergen County resident was arrested in Minnestoa and was taken to the Otter Tail County Jail in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, pending extradition to New Jersey.

A Bergen County Grand Jury indicted Phykitt on July 15, 2025, but the indictment was unsealed, according to the BCPO.

The extradition hearing at a Minnesota court was scheduled for Aug. 4, 2025, and the court released Phykitt from custody on a date that was not mentioned in the press releasee sent by the BCPO.

Phykitt failed to appear at court and remains missing.

The Otter Tail Minnesota County Sheriff's Office is searching for Phykitt, and will charge him with failure to appear at a court proceeding. The BCPO are also trying to find Phykitt. He was last seen in Minnesota
