In a world largely dominated by boxy, rugged SUVs, the Lucid Gravity stands out by focusing entirely on what crossover buyers need on the road. The resulting vehicle is fast, sleek, and efficient, but it admittedly doesn't check the boxes necessary for buyers looking for an electric three-row that can hold its own off-road. Soon, Lucid may have a solution to just that problem: enter the brand's latest concept, the Lucid Gravity X. (It's pronounced "Gravity Cross," for what it's worth.)
Yes, this is an off-road variant of a decidedly on-road SUV. The station wagon-like shape of the Gravity remains, but the swoopy SUV has lifted and its track widened for its new duties. All-terrain tires, skid plates, integrated tow hooks, and new fascias front and rear designed to improve approach and departure angle are the main highlights of this off-road build.
Because no off-roader is complete without some sort of a nod to overlanding, the Gravity X also picks up a modular roof system packed with accessories. A roof box, an LED light bar, integrated cross bars, and spaces to mount other add-ons offer options for overlanders looking to take their Lucid camping. The three-row SUV also has fold-flat seats with a stowable third row, making it a versatile option for both car camping and loading up gear for a full car of would-be adventurers.
Like so many other safari-fied cars and crossovers before it, the Gravity X is just a one-off concept for now. Lucid has not announced any plans to build something like the concept in the future, but given how realistic this machine seems, it certainly could lead to an off-road variant of the Gravity in the future. For now, the one-off can be seen on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance this Sunday.
