(WHTM)– Are you a fan of nature but can’t make it to the outdoors? The Pennsylvania Game Commission is bringing a live look at the outdoors to your computer.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission says it launched its elk cam on Friday, giving the entire state an inside look at elk in the Pennsylvania wild.

September is the peak of the state’s elk rut, and Pennsylvanians can get an early inside look online. The live feed will also have sound and could feature a variety of critters in the Pennsylvania wild, including turkey and deer.

The camera is situated in the heart of Pennsylvania’s elk range, which encompasses 220,000 acres, including State Game Lands 311 and Elk State Forest, according to the Game Commission.

“Pennsylvania’s elk herd connects people, from throughout the country, in person or online to these iconic animals of the North American wilderness,” said Jason Beale, Game Commission Division Chief for Conservation Education and Social Science. “Their presence in Pennsylvania attests to the often-unseen work of the Game Commission’s biologists, habitat managers, and Game Wardens. It also showcases the critical partnerships with other state agencies and private organizations needed to maintain habitat and promote ‘ELK SMART’ behaviors to the thousands of annual visitors.”

The Game Commission says the elk cam will run until the end of the bugling season, which is likely in mid-October. The best time to see elk in the wild is in the afternoon.
