Tamarack Resort, Idaho, Partially Reopens After Rock Fire Closure

Tamarack Resort, Idaho, due to a nearby fire, was prompted to hold a brief but complete suspension of summer resort operations this week.

The blaze—dubbed the Rock Fire—is burning to the south of the ski resort. According to a CBS2articleupdated Thursday,it had expanded to 2,000 acres. The fire response included Hotshot crews and handcrews alongside multiple planes and helicopters.

However, Tamarack has announced on social media that “thanks to the incredible progress of fire crews and the tireless efforts of our team,” a phased reopening of summer operations is underway. Tamarack called it “a deliberate, safety-led approach.”

Beginning Friday, August 15, 2025, numerous activities are back on the docket, including the Osprey Meadows Golf Course, dining, and the spa. The Marina, ziplining, Mid Mountain Lodge, and lift-served activities remain temporarily closed as the ski resort continues safety evaluations.

“A heartfelt thank you to the firefighters, emergency personnel, and our Tamarack team for protecting our community,” the post added.

Fire crews are still working to contain the fire. On Friday morning, the Boise National Forest said firefighters had spent the previous night battling the lightning-caused blaze near Tamarack. Their efforts, the Boise National Forest said, kept the Rock Fire’s growth to a minimum. An infrared mapping flight showed that it now covers about 2,336 acres.

On Thursday evening, the Boise National Forest also reported that calmer winds and cooler temperatures—and the work of firefighters—had helped slow the advance of the Rock Fire.

“Today, firefighters will continue building containment lines directly against the fire’s edge and indirect lines to further improve defenses near communities and critical infrastructure,” the Boise National Forest said, noting that the fire has been spotted up against Tamarack’s Bliss ski run—a blue trail that winds from the summit to near the base area. The agency added that crews are working aggressively to keep it in check there.

In total, there are 252 firefighters and support staff on scene, including three Hotshot crews, three 20-person Initial Attack handcrews, two ten-person handcrews, 11 engines, and two dozers. On Friday, they’ll receive support from multiple aircraft, including at least four helicopters.
