Own This Comic Book Famous Third Gen Pontiac Firebird

A lot of enthusiasts and collectors alike dream of owning a famous car, we guess like this modified 1990 Pontiac Firebird. After all, it was featured in a comic book back in the day, so maybe some people remember it, even though we definitely don’t. But it’s unique, we’ll give it that.

Learn about the car that was the very first Batmobile.

The comic book in question is Captain WOW, which was released back in 1990. We know, it’s not up there with Amazing Spider-Man, Detective Comics, or Uncanny X-Men and there’s a good reason.

Captain WOW was part of a marketing campaign put on by Texaco back in the day. It’s an acronym that stands for “Wipe Out Waste.” That’s right, it was an environmentalist superhero from back in the day, so that’s why you probably don’t remember him.

Anyway, because it was supposed to be featured in a kid’s comic, it’s been modified in some rather corny ways. The custom body kit has all kinds of ridiculous modifications like fake vents, wings, even some mock jet engines in the rear.

For some reason, the creators decided to put a KITT dashboard from Knight Rider into the cabin, we guess to make it look more technologically advanced. Keep in mind this was around the same time you could go to Texaco and along with your Captain WOW comic also buy some Desert Storm trading cards.

This car is a slice of culture from back before the internet was really a thing. It’s crazy, kitschy, and maybe will really speak to the right person.

What we find so interesting about this car is the custom body kit is eerily similar in some ways to the fourth gen F-bodies. Obviously, it’s not just like what would come out later, but it is a little interesting.
