Police have given the "all clear" after issuing emergency alert Sunday morning near the Minnesota State Fairgrounds following a robbery spree in the east Twin Cities metro.

The alert was sent to cellphones at around 10:20 a.m., telling people to avoid the area south of the fairgrounds along Como Avenue, with Transit Way and the Canfield Street gates to the fairgrounds closed due to "police activity in the area."

An "All Clear" alert was sent out around noon, confirming the police operation is over.

The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office has since confirmed that the emergency alert was issued to the whole of Ramsey County at the request of Minnesota State Fair police.

It follows three armed robberies at gas stations in Roseville and Little Canada, all of which are believed to have been committed by the same suspects.

The robberies all involved a handgun, the sheriff's office said, and happened at the Speedway at 2295 Rice Street and the BP at 3110 Cleveland Avenue in Roseville, and the BP at 300 Little Canada Road in Little Canada.

During the robbery at the Roseville BP, a clerk was "physically assaulted" by one of the suspects. After this incident, the suspect vehicle was spotted by police and pursued into St. Paul, crashing near Pierce Butler Road and Prior Avenue, south of the fairgrounds.

The suspects fled into the woods, sparking a search, with one suspect later arrested.

The incident comes as preparations are ongoing for the Minnesota State Fair, which gets underway on Thursday.
