Monterey Car Week brings out the best and sometimes the worst of car culture, as hoards of enthusiast descend upon the Central Coast of California to get a glimpse at supercars and even more rare things. One of those supercars, a Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster LP 640s met its maker right outside of Laguna Seca Raceway and was caught on camera being pushed off the side of road by California Highway Patrol.

"On August 17, 2025, at approximately 1:39 p.m., a three-vehicle crash occurred on State Route 68 (SR-68), east of Laguna Seca," a CHP statement provided to Road & Track reads. "A Lamborghini, driven by a solo male driver, was traveling eastbound on SR-68 when, for reasons still under investigation, it crashed into the rear of a Jaguar SUV occupied by a driver and passenger. The impact caused the Jaguar SUV to be pushed forward, resulting in a secondary crash with a GMC pickup traveling directly ahead of the Jaguar."

Festivities at Laguna Seca are some of the weekend's highlights, but turning out of the track onto State Route 68 can be tricky. The two-lane road is highly trafficked and finding a gap on the state highway can be challenging. It is at this difficult intersection where the Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster was involved in a crash, according to California Highway Patrol.

Public Information Officer Saul Perez from the CHP-Monterey Area confirmed that there were no life threatening injuries related to the crash and that none of the involved parties were transported to the hospital. Additionally, CHP has ruled out alcohol as a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation by CHP-Monterey Area.

Video evidence from YouTuber DailyDrivenExotics corroborates this series of events. A CHP officer can be seen using the crash bar on the front-end of his Ford Police Interceptor Utility units to push the limited-edition Murcielago Roadster off the side of SR-68. The front-end of the 6.5 liter V-12 engined supercar appears to have taken the hardest hit, with the frunk and its contents (including some Liquimoly products) spilling out of a gaping hole in the hood. The windshield appears completely shattered and the automated roll-bars even popped out of the headrests during the crash.

The Murcielago Roadster was reportedly owned by a vehicle diagnostic startup called Sparq. The group's Instagram page shows what appears to the same Murcielago Roadster at another Sparq event earlier this year and also confirms that the company hosted an event at the Lamborghini House near Pebble Beach Golf Links on August 16. Daniel Nieh and Codrin Cobzaru, co-founders of Sparq, appeared in DailyDrivenExotics YouTube channel and discussed the fall-out of the crash candidly. Additionally, the video shows the SUV that was rear-ended by the Lamborghini was actually a Jaguar F-Pace SVR. Supercars crashes are part and parcel of the broader Monterey Car Week experience, but it is easy to forget that these crashed cars are often the culmination of a childhood dream destroyed.

"We always had a Murcielago as a poster in the bedroom and said 'Hey, when I grow, that's my dream car'," Nieh said in an interview with DailyDrivenExotics. "To see the dream car totaled is not any easy thing to process."
