WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WTNH) — Waiting for that next flight is getting more colorful, and you might learn a thing or two about our area. In Windsor Locks, students are putting their educational and creative twist on the terminals!
The familiar hustle and bustle of Bradley International Airport just got a lot more comfortable as you wait for that next flight.
What’s Right With Schools: Enrolling in nature’s classroom at Schooner Day Camp in New Haven
“Each school had to come up with a design that was either reflective of their school or their town and they’re out in the terminal for passengers to look at, learn more about and even sit in as they wait for their flights,” Brian Spyros at Bradley International Airport said.
It’s the airport’s 2025 chair art project. It gives creative students, like a group at Somers High School, a chance to put their home on display for all travelers to see.
“I personally worked on priming it…My favorite part is in the back, the four-town fair, I helped come up with that idea,” Henry Burda, an art student at Somers High School, said.
Seven schools in Connecticut and two schools in western Massachusetts are creating chairs, showing off what makes their home special.
As you fly, look for the work of students in Windsor, Windsor Locks, Somers, Granby, Ellington, Glastonbury, Coventry, as well as Agawam and Longmeadow, Mass.
“I had my students sketch out their ideas and collected those ideas to put together the bits and pieces into a master design,” Kyle Kipfer, art teacher at Somers High School, said.
Of course, the airport needed one of its own. Windsor Locks High School has an airport-themed chair, with one of the actual runways.
Traveling to and from locations while learning about what makes our region so special.
“One of our main goals at Bradley is to create a sense of place in the terminal. That’s reflective of our place and the broader region,” Spyros said.
A sense of place and a creative outlet for art students.
