We may only be halfway through summer, but many big box stores are already putting out their Halloween candy in an admittedly premature celebration of fall.
And these retailers aren't alone in their Halloween preparations – it's also the time of year that you may start to see vacant storefronts sporting bright orange banners with the words "Spirit Halloween Opening Soon" written across them.
But when is Spirit Halloween actually going to open? And which cities in Illinois can you expect them to pop up in?
Here's what we know.
When will Spirit Halloween stores open in Illinois?
The retailer published a press release on June 25 announcing it's seeking 50,000 seasonal employees to work at the more than 1,500 locations it plans to open across the country this year.
The Illinois locations listed on the chain's website also all include either the tag "Opening Soon" or "Coming in August," which implies the opening dates may be closer than we think.
The chain has a reputation of typically opening their stores at the end of July or beginning of August on a Saturday, according to USA TODAY.
For example, the retailer had a special grand opening celebration at its flagship store in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, on Thursday, Aug. 1 in 2024 and on Saturday, July 29 in 2023. According to a news release from the company, its grand opening event was held on Saturday, July 30 in 2022 and on Saturday, July 31 in 2021.
With all of this in mind, our best guess as to when the flagship Spirit Halloween store will open in 2025 is Saturday, Aug. 2. We think stores will begin popping up around the country after that.
