
Summer is peak moving season, when households pack up and move elsewhere. U-Haul's 2025 midyear migration trends analysis reveals just where Ohioans are moving to and from in the first half of 2025.
The latest U-Haul trends report analyzed 35 U.S. metros with a population of over 2 million residents and looked at the company's one-way customer rentals (including trucks, trailers and moving containers) to determine the most common cities where people move to in the U.S. Several cities in the Buckeye State served as a hotspot for newcomers.
Where are Ohioans moving to? Where are new Ohio residents moving from? Here's what the results show.
Where are Ohio residents moving to?
These are the cities where Ohioans were among the top 10 newest residents, per U-Haul. Most Ohioans stayed near the Midwest, flocking to Detroit, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis.

Where are Ohio residents moving to and from?
In Ohio's largest metros, Cincinnati newcomers primarily hail from Kentucky and Indiana. Cleveland welcomed the most residents from Michigan, and Columbus received most of its new residents from Florida.
Within Ohio, Cincinnati saw the most newcomers from Columbus; Columbus received the most incoming residents from Cleveland; and Cleveland's newest in-state residents primarily came from Akron.

Central Ohio is experiencing significant population growth, Axios reports, where the region has gained residents in the past five years, with areas like Sunbury and Pickerington seeing the most growth among Central Ohio suburbs.
However, Ohio's overall population is predicted to decline in the coming years, even while the United States experiences overall growth.
