Restomod Shop Classic Recreations Files For Bankruptcy

Restomod shop Classic Recreations, which has become famous for its Mustangs and Shelby muscle cars, has filed for bankruptcy. On July 9, the business filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the state of Texas, shocking many. After all, with builds selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars, it appeared all was going great.

Personal data leaked in NASCAR ransomware attack.

However, in case you haven’t been paying attention, there’s been a huge downturn in the collector car market and it’s affecting many businesses attached to it. We likely have only begun to see the full effects of the ongoing market correction.

After Petty’s Garage officially shut down, we have yet another highly respected and influential shop that’s on the ropes. 2025 isn’t shaping up to be a great year for the car hobby, and we fear it might get even worse before the close of December.

Over the last two decades, Classic Recreations has built many breathtaking restomod cars by hand, including lightweight carbon fiber bodies that are true to the form and dimensions of classic Ford and Shelby models, like the AC Cobra, GT500CR, and the “Hitman” Fastback.

Under the skin, the shop would use modern chassis, engines, electronics, etc. for potent performance married to throwback aesthetics.

It hasn’t just stuck just with the Blue Oval, offering some classic GMs like classic Camaros powered by LS crate engines.

Nobody who knows for sure is saying what’s going on with Classic Recreations. But we have heard in general in the industry that the money enthusiasts were throwing around like it was nothing, buying expensive builds, has mostly dried up.

Depending on where you are financially, that’s either a great or horrible thing. We know for many younger enthusiasts, the constantly inflating market seemed to signal they would never be able to afford their dream car, quite literally.

But with the market corrections come uncertainties. Because Classic Recreations has entered Chapter 11, it has a chance to reorganize and pay off its debts. We’ll see what the future holds for the respected shop out of Texas.
