While Kansas increased its population by 30,060 people last year, according to data from the state's Division of Budget, some cities aren't faring as well as others.
The population report uses U.S. Census Bureau data to track populations. In total, four cities lost more than 100 people during the past year, compared to 14 in 2023.
The total population reached a record high of 2,970,606 in 2024. The rate of growth was 10 times greater than between 2022 and 2023, when the population only grew by 3,396 people.

Cities that lost more than 100 residents
Augusta: This Butler County city's population decreased by 142 from 2023 to 2023, bringing its population to 9,103.
El Dorado: This Butler County city's population decreased by 225 from 2023 to 2024, bringing its population to 12,694
El Dorado Township: This Butler County township's population decreased by 198 from 2023 to 2024, bringing its population to 644.
Hutchinson: This Reno County city's population decreased by 101 from 2023 to 2024, bringing its population to 39,561.
