Punks In Can-Am Get A Big PIT Maneuver

After running over a local police officer, suspects in a Can-Am decided to tangle with Florida law enforcement in a chase. But as not only the police department but also sheriff’s office and Florida Highway Patrol converged to catch the fleeing side-by-side, our suspect driver probably didn’t expect the pursuit to end in a PIT maneuver.

Watch police chase down a fleeing semi-truck.

There’s a real problem with what are usually kids on small off-road vehicles like side-by-sides, ATVs, dirt bikes, etc. spreading chaos in cities across the country. It once was an issue that was contained to places like New York City, the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Chicago but more recently has spread to even fairly rural communities.

The problem is catching the small vehicles which can go virtually anywhere can sometimes prove tricky. After all, even if police catch up with the suspects, they can suddenly go down at alley or drive on a footpath, going where cruisers can’t.

Plus, there’s the problem of many law enforcement agencies not allowing for PIT maneuvers or other tactical stopping techniques to be deployed on the small vehicles.

Unfortunately for these suspects, Florida Highway Patrol has no restrictions on using force to stop them.

A good portion of the included dashcam video from FHP is the trooper just getting into position so he can catch up with the Can-Am. Our suspect driver is weaving all over the place, getting the cops to chase their own tails and at one point almost run into each other.

But the trooper is methodical and patient, finally putting himself somewhere that he can lock on the little side-by-side and take action. Once he does, the driver who is wearing a ski mask immediately puts his hands up in surrender. He also quickly becomes a whimpering victim, even though he could’ve killed the cop he hit.
