
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued tsunami warnings and advisories for all of California's coastline on July 29 in the evening.
One of the largest earthquakes ever recorded in Russia triggered tsunami warnings all over the Pacific Ocean, and NOAA is warning Californians waves will likely hit their shores.

Tsunami waves are expected to hit California between 11:50 p.m. July 29 and 1:15 a.m. July 30, according to the NWS.
An 8.8 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Kamchatka, Russia, a peninsula on the eastern edge of the country, north of Japan.
California's Geological Survey Tsunami Website includes a preparedness guide, which outlines hazard areas and urges residents to stay out of those areas until officials say it's safe to return.

Most of southern California is currently under a tsunami advisory while Humboldt County and north of there is under a more severe tsunami warning, according to NOAA's map.
So far, the tsunami waves have not caused major injuries or damage in Russia or Japan, according to the Associated Press. The earthquake that set off the waves did cause some minor injuries in Russia, as well as building damage, but nobody has been reported dead.
The earthquake is the strongest in the world since a 9.0 magnitude quake in March 2011 off the coast of Japan, which caused major damage to the island nation, including the historic meltdown of the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
So far Japanese nuclear power plants have reported no abnormalities, AP reported, and the company that operates the Fukushima plant has said roughly 4,000 workers are seeking shelter on higher ground and monitoring conditions.
