The state of Iowa has redesigned its Sex Offender Registry website with new functions to improve user experience.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Sex Offender Registry started in July 1995. In hopes of promoting public safety, the public can search current information regarding registered sex offenders in Iowa, according to the website.
“Our goal with this redesign is to provide Iowans with an updated, intuitive, and accessible platform to access vital information,” said Hunter Bellon, the Iowa Department of Public Safety special agent in charge of the registry. “We are committed to transparency and safety, and this new website will help ensure that critical information about sex offender registrants remains readily available to the public.”
What is new to Iowa's Sex Offender Registry?
The homepage of Iowa's Sex Offender Registry at iowasexoffender.gov now links to active and most-wanted registrants. A new search function offers a broader range of options and tips, according to the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
A new interactive map displays the number of registrants across regions of the state. Users can sign up for personalized notifications and find links to crime prevention.
How many registered sex offenders live in Iowa?
There are a total of 6,658 registered sex offenders with primary addresses in Iowa as of Aug. 25, according to the state registry. Adams County has the least amount with five registrants. Counties with higher populations tend to have a higher number of registrants.
How many registered sex offenders live in the Des Moines metro?

There are nearly 1,300 registered sex offenders with primary addresses in the Des Moines metro, according to the state of Iowa.
Dallas County: 69 registrants
Jasper County: 74 registrants
Madison County: 22 registrants
Polk County: 964 registrants
Story County: 111 registrants
Warren County: 53 registrants
