Certified 1932 Auburn 8-100A Boattail Speedster, retaining original components and 44-year provenance, emerges as one of America’s most desirable classics.

A highly original and historically significant 1932 Auburn 8-100A Boattail Speedster, certified by the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club (ACD), will cross the auction block for the first time. Known as one of the most desirable pre-war American automobiles, this example carries an exceptional ownership history and unmatched authenticity.

Certified as ACD A-017, the car retains its original engine, body, chassis, and transmission—along with the rare original number stampings still visible in the passenger-side wood seals. Such preservation makes it one of the most genuine Auburn Speedsters known to exist.

Powered by a 268.6-cubic-inch Lycoming straight-eight delivering 100 horsepower, the 8-100A was both stylish and innovative. Auburn equipped the model with a dual-range overdrive rear axle, automatic Startix starter, adjustable shocks, and early four-wheel hydraulic brakes. Combined with its sculpted fenders, tapered boattail rear, and rakish windshield, the Speedster embodied the glamour and innovation of early 1930s motoring.

The car’s ownership is as distinguished as its engineering. Originally part of Chicago collector Joe Bortz’s stable in the 1960s, it was sold in 1966 to Raymond L. Cloud of Pennsylvania. Cloud, a devoted ACD Club member, cherished the Auburn for 44 years, frequently driving it to annual reunions in Auburn, Indiana, where it became a fixture among enthusiasts. Following his passing in 2010, the Speedster was passed to his family before being acquired by other noted collectors, including television personality Wayne Carini.

Today, the car remains cloaked in mellowed white paint with green accents over a green leather interior. Green wire wheels with new Firestone whitewalls, dual cowl lights, Pilot Ray driving lamps, and enclosed side-mounted spares enhance its period-correct look.

Rarely does such an authentic, long-held, and documented Auburn Speedster surface at public auction. With its original components and ACD certification, this example offers collectors a chance to own one of the finest pre-war American classics ever built. See it here.
