HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Land Trust of North Alabama will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony of the Tollgate Greenway Project on Thursday, September 4.
The event is scheduled to take place at the Bankhead Trailhead Parking Lot located at 2442 Bankhead Parkway, Huntsville, AL., at 11 a.m.
The project will create a 1.2-mile paved, multi-use greenway following a segment of Toll Gate Road on Monte Sano.
Beginning at the Land Trust’s Bankhead Trailhead and connecting with the closed section of Bankhead Parkway, the greenway will provide pedestrians and cyclists with a safe route along the western slope of the mountain.
The project is also set to expand access to nature for individuals with limited mobility who can’t utilize traditional natural-surface trails.
There is no timetable for when construction is going to begin. The greenway is expected to open in the spring of 2026.
