George Conway on the FBI targeting Bolton: ‘This is not healthy’

Conservative lawyer George Conway condemned the recent FBI raid at the home and office of former national security adviser John Bolton, saying Americans need to “wake up” to the “authoritarianism” taking place under President Trump.

“This is not America. This is not healthy,” Conway, an outspoken Trump critic, told CNN’s John Berman in an interview Tuesday.

“You know, people don’t want to reach this conclusion: This is authoritarianism,” he continued. “We have never seen anything like this in America.”

Conway compared the FBI search on Bolton, who served under Trump in his first administration and has scrutinized the president over his foreign policy, to actions taken by authoritarian leaders in Europe, including former Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in Germany and former Spanish dictator Francisco Franco.

“This is how it’s done,” the ex-husband of former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway said. ” And it may seem alarmist to Americans who enjoy … our lives here, a beautiful country, with so many things to do and so many ways to entertain ourselves.”

“It’s time for Americans to wake up,” he continued. “This is serious. Donald Trump … people may laugh at him because … he appears to be such a clown, but he’s profoundly dangerous because he has the power of prosecution. And every time he says something like this, Americans should take note.”

The FBI search last Friday was reportedly related to Bolton’s handling of classified documents. Bolton was previously investigated for his tell-all book, “The Room Where It Happened,” which details his time in the Trump administration, amid allegations that it contained classified information.

The probe was dropped under the Biden administration.

Trump has denied any direct role in or knowledge of the Bolton investigation.
