Police in Massachusetts have charged a New York man with child rape and other sexual offenses against minors.
New York State Police arrested 29-year-old Hicksville resident Geoffrey Gerber on an arrest warrant out of Bridgewater, Massachusetts, following a five-month investigation by Bridgewater detectives into crimes against a local minor, according to a press release from Bridgewater police.
Gerber is charged with aggravated rape of a child involving a 10-year age difference, exhibiting a child performing a sexual act, enticement of a child under 16, disseminating obscene material to a minor and making obscene telephone calls, Bridgewater police said.
On Thursday, Aug. 14, Bridgewater detectives took Gerber into their custody at the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department in New York where he was being held, Bridgewater police said. He was then transported back to Massachusetts, charged at the Bridgewater Police Department and held at Plymouth County Correctional Facility.
Bridgewater police did not include many details about Gerber’s alleged crimes, but said that he had made contact with the victim through multiple social media platforms. The department began investigating Gerber after they were contacted by the victim.
