FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The University of Arkansas Chancellor, Dr. Charles F. Robinson, sent a letter to students, faculty and staff addressing the active shooter calls that law enforcement believes to be a hoax.

Robinson gives details on the call and the response from law enforcement. He also details how the school’s RazALERT system works and offers mental health services to those affected by the events.

“As we move forward from the series of reports of active threats on campus that we received yesterday, I want to express my gratitude to UAPD and the many other law enforcement agencies, as well as faculty and staff, who responded quickly to help ensure our campus was safe,” Robinson said. “I’d also like to acknowledge the students who responded appropriately, waited patiently and followed safety protocols during the emergency.”

Robinson says that around 12:24 p.m., University of Arkansas police received a 911 call of an active shooting at Mullins Library. Robinson said the call included sounds of gunfire. A RazALERT message was immediately sent to campus.

An update was sent out at 1:29 p.m. notifying students that police were responding to reports around the campus.

The final alert was sent to campus as soon as authorities could confirm that the emergency had ended. Because of the disruption, classes were cancelled.

Robinson says counseling services through the Counseling and Psychological Services in the Pat Walker Health Center are available to students, faculty and staff, including additional drop-in hours across campus. More details can be found here.

Robinson says RazALERT messages are sent automatically to all campus landlines and email address and to personal cell phones when that information has been provided to the university in Workday. He says you can check your contact info here.

Robinson recommends that those on campus download the SafeZone app, which can connect directly with UAPD and allows users to share their location in the event of an emergency.

“Throughout this event, I am grateful for the full support of the governor, the attorney general, our congressional delegation and other elected officials. Please know authorities are investigating the false reports that impacted our campus yesterday,” Robinson said.
