KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City man has been sentenced to prison for his role in a robbery turned deadly shooting in August 2021.
Latrell Muldrew-Golston, 24, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted first-degree robbery in Jackson County Circuit Court on Friday, July 25. He was sentenced to five years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Before his conviction, Muldrew-Golston was facing a charge of second-degree murder after a woman, 27-year-old Randie Smith, was shot and killed in an attempted robbery.

Two other suspects, Latrell’s brother, Raynell Muldrew-Golston, and their friend Keron Black, were also charged with second-degree murder.
According to court records, at about 8 a.m. on Aug. 23, 2021, Kansas City police were called to the area of Independence Avenue and Garfield Avenue, as well as Independence Avenue and The Paseo, on reports of a shooting and car crash.
When officers arrived, they reported finding Smith inside the overturned car with wounds to her wrist and chest. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jackson County Medical Examiner later ruled her death a homicide.
Investigations revealed that before the crash, Smith had been at the BP Gas Station on The Paseo to meet a potential buyer for a PlayStation 4 she had listed on Facebook Marketplace for $225.
According to court records, surveillance video showed Smith parking at the gas station when Raynell and Black approached her car.
After she opened her door, she and one of the men began to struggle. At the same time, a second man walked to the passenger side with a handgun and fired into the front windshield. The same man fired again as Smith drove from the gas station, according to charging documents.
Police said that as Smith drove away, she lost control of her car and hit a utility pole before overturning.
She was later found by police with gunshot wounds to her wrist and chest. Crime scene investigators recovered two spent 9mm shell casings from the parking lot.
Court records say that detectives later found Facebook messages that linked the men to the crime. When questioned, Black told police he knew they were planning on robbing Smith, while Raynell told police he did something stupid because he was scared.
