PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — A Philadelphia man has been sentenced for extensively sexually exploiting children.

Joshua Lang, 37, was sentenced to over 35 years in prison and a lifetime of supervised release, according to United States Attorney David Metcalf. Lang was also ordered to pay $23,545 in restitution and $14,300 in special assessments.

Documents showed that Lang and co-defendant Kenneth Miller were charged after an investigation began in 2022. Lang had purchased child pornography from a 13-year-old girl over Instagram, and the Philadelphia Police Department Special Victims Unit (PPD SVU) began investigating after the Tampa Police Department submitted a tip about the purchase.

In July 2023, police executed a search warrant at Lang and Miller’s home. From that, they learned that Lang and Miller had both sexually abused and taken part in exploitative activities that extended far beyond Lang’s online activities. They both sexually abused children and manufactured, traded and collected videos and images of their victims.

In February 2024, a grand jury indicted Lang and Miller, charging them with conspiracy to manufacture child pornography, manufacturing and aiding and abetting the manufacture of child pornography. Lang also faced additional charges of manufacturing and attempted manufacturing of child pornography and receiving child pornography.

During their case, Lang admitted that over three years, they sexually abused one minor, who was between 12 and 14, and recorded acts as a way to “memorialize” the abuse. According to the Department of Justice, they also installed hidden cameras in their bathroom and produced sexually explicit images of at least five children.

Lang then also admitted to sexually abusing another minor when they were between 8 and 9. Police also noted that after his arrest, over 13,000 files of child sexual abuse material were found on his phone.

“The crimes Lang committed are stomach-turning,” U.S. Attorney Metcalf said. “He sexually abused two children, documented that exploitation, and violated the privacy and trust of other children for his and his partner’s gratification. Together, they strategized ways to sexually groom minors to whom they had access. Our community is emphatically safer with these predators in prison, and today’s sentence ensures Lang will remain behind bars where he can’t harm another innocent child.”
