Delaware offers low-cost school and sports physicals in August

The Delaware Division of Public Health is organizing special Back-to-School and Sports Physical Days at one clinic in each county during the first week of August. The events are for students needing physicals for school enrollment or required for participation in Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association sports.

Insurance will be accepted, but out-of-pocket costs will not exceed $20, regardless of coverage. State health officials are encouraging appointments due to limited walk-in availability and potentially long wait times.

Physical days are scheduled as follows:

  • Kent County: Aug. 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Riverwalk State Service Center, 253 NE Front St., Milford. Appointments: 302-424-7140.

  • New Castle County: Aug. 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Floyd I. Hudson State Service Center, 501 Ogletown Road, Newark. Appointments: 302-283-7587.

  • Sussex County: Aug. 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Thurman Adams Jr. State Service Center, 546 S. Bedford St., Georgetown. Appointments: 302-515-3224.

Dr. Awele Maduka-Ezeh, medical director for the Delaware Division of Public Health, the agency recognizes the ongoing need for affordable back-to-school and sports physicals. She noted that the clinics provide a range of services throughout the year and that the upcoming physical days are an opportunity for Delaware families to access those services.
